This is the second Mercedes-Benz Actros 4165 of Kahl Schwerlast from Duisburg (DE) that was used by the transport of a heavy transformer in Nuremberg (DE). This truck was towing the heavy trailer through the streets, during the other truck was parked stand-by in the port.
The truck with 8x6-drive line is powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM 502 LA, a 15.9-liter 8-cylinder diesel engine with a power of 480 kW (653 hp). The truck was modified by Titan for the heavy duty jobs; the reinforcement of the chassis and bumpers, the conversion to 8x6 (from 6x6), the installation of the VIAB turbo coupling and the equipment tower behind the cabin.
With the 8x6-drive line are the first and the last two axles driven, but also (through the engine) braked. Behind the front axle are the muffler and a storage compartment installed.
Above the last three axles is the heavy ballast box mounted, the total mass of the truck is around 41 tonnes to give enough pressure on the driven axles.
Behind the cabin are the large diesel tank, hydraulic oil tank, compressed-air tanks, batteries and a large cooler for the VIAB turbo coupling installed, sharp finished with the flaps on both sides. In front of the diesel tank is a large storage compartment made.
Attached to the bumper is a heavy coupling installed so that such transports can be pushed of brakes also from behind.
Attached is a 40-axle modular trailer composed out of Goldhofer modules with a 600-tonne girder bride of Greiner.
The girder bridge is in the front installed on a double 10-axle Goldhofer THP/ST modules and at the rear on a double 10-axle Goldhofer PST/SL-E (with driven axles). At the rear are two Goldhofer PP 490 power packs parked with each a power of 360 kW (490 hp) to drive some axles on the rear modules.
The Greiner G² | K600 girder bridge is designed for cargos up to 600 tonnes.
The cargo is loaded on the beams. The cargo is a Siemens transformer with a mass of 432 tonnes.
The beams of the girder bridge are in width adjustable with use of hydraulics. Between the beams is it possible to transport cargos with a width of maximum 6.2 meters. By use of the large hydraulic cylinders are the beams in height against the modules adjustable and is it possible to pick-up or unload cargos without a crane. The adjustment in height is approx. 2.145 meters.
The girder bridge is operated from the cabin that is installed on top of the modules.
This transport is approx. 63 meters long, 7.45 meters wide and 6.1 meters tall. The total mass is approx. 645 tonnes.
