Asiagroup is one of the largest crane rental companies in Singapore and also has branches in Malaysia and Myanmar. This Manitowoc 8500-1 was used by the construction of one their new buildings.
It is an 80-tonne crawler crane that is built by Kobelco, but sold under the Manitowoc brand. This co-operation between Kobelco and Manitowoc startet in 2003 and ended in 2018. This made is for Kobelco possible to enter new markets with the name of Manitowoc, while Grove (part of Manitowoc group) had the possibility to sell AT cranes under the Kobelco name in Japan. Another example of this co-operation was the Grove GCK3045.
The undercarriage is 6.28 meters long and 5.24 meters wide. For the transport over the road can the width be reduced to 3.6 meters. On both sides is 7.2 tonnes of central counterweight attached, 14.4 tonnes in total.
The counterweight weights 28.3 tonnes and has a 4.5 meter tailswing.
The crane is powered by a HINO J08E-VM, a 6-cylinder water cooled diesel engine with a power of 213 kW (285 hp). The engine powers three hydraulik oil pumps to operate the crane functions.
The main boom has a 12.2 meter base length and can be extended to 61 meters in 3.1 meter steps. A fixed jib with a maximum length of 18.3 meters can be combined with a 54.9 meter main boom. A runner is attached here to the main boom head, but not in use.
For this job was the crane fitted with a 42.7 meter long main boom. A sharp crane!
