An early morning in Göppingen (DE). Two mobile cranes are setting up and will lift the steam locomotive 44 1315 from the rails onto a low loader for further transport over the road to a museum.
The used equipment are the Grove GMK5250L of Paule from Stuttgart (DE) and a Liebherr LTM 1200-5.1 of Kran Maurer from Göppingen (DE). Both companies are deploying here their largest cranes.
The sharp Grove of Paule is fitted with 50 tonnes of counterweight, the Liebherr of Kran Maurer will be used with 52 tonnes of counterweight. The steam locomotive is parked directly next to the cranes.
The steam locomotive 44 1315 has year of manufacture 1942 and was built by Krupp in Essen (DE). Until 1977 was de locomotive in use. The locomotive is now owned by the city of Kornwestheim (DE) and will be temporary displayed at the Märklin Museum in Göppingen (DE).
The steam locomotive is attached and the crane can now slowly increase the load. The Grove has the main boom extended 23.6 meters, the Liebherr is working with a 26.7 meter long main boom.
For the transport will Paule use on of their Mercedes-Benz Actros 4163. The combination will be parked behind the cranes.
The steam locomotive with a length of approx. 15 meters is hanging in both cranes, the mass is approx. 100 tonnes.
Carefully are the crane operators slewing the impressive load between the cranes ...
... to position the load above the transport combination. The job could count on a lot of (media) attention.
The Grove's year of manufacture is 2016.
The sharp steam locomotive is loaded on a 12-axle Goldhofer trailer.
The Liebherr LTM 1200-5.1 of Kran Maurer has year of manufacture 2018.
After the steam locomotive is loaded are both cranes prepared to lift the tender.
First it was required to remove the steam locomotive from the narrow location. The Mercedes-Benz Actros 4163 is pushing the trailer with beautiful cargo onto the public road.
Then the cranes can load the tender with a mass of approx. 30 tonnes onto a second combination by Kran Maurer.
After both cargos are loaded onto trucks can both cranes dismantle. They will both be required on the next day to unload the steam locomotive and tender at the museum. A very sharp crane job!
