This fine Scania R 500 of Van Maanen from Barneveld (NL) was often deployed for the transport of rail vehicles, a speciality of Van Maanen. The combination consists of a four-axle truck with a four-axle low loader. This company no longer exists today.

The load is the fine steam locomotive 5 "Enkhuizen" of the Museum Steam Tram Hoorn-Medemblik. This locomotive from the year of manufacture 1929 had briefly been loaned to another museum in Belgium and was therefore transported by road. Here, the locomotive returned to Hoorn (NL). The locomotive weighs approximately 26.5 tonnes without water and coal.

The trailer being hauled is a 4-axle Broshuis 4ABD58 low loader. A special feature is that the deck has integrated rails.

A winch is mounted at the rear on the bogie of the low loader in order to load and unload the rail vehicles.

In order to unload rail vehicles, a ramp is required; this can be mounted by hand relatively simply and quickly.

Subsequently, the locomotive is unloaded from the low loader onto the rails via the ramp with the aid of the winch.

The truck is this fine Scania R 500 with 8x4 drive. Both rear axles are driven by a Scania DC16, a 15.6-litre 8-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 368 kW (500 hp).

Behind the first axle, the AdBlue tank is mounted, and behind the second axle, a small storage box is mounted. Directly behind the cab, a large storage box is mounted, and the large diesel tank is installed in the middle.

After that, the empty combination can continue to the next transport.

We conclude with another fine overview photograph of the combination with steam locomotive. After Van Maanen went bankrupt, this combination was taken over by transport company G.L. De Haan, and the complete combination was painted in the fine green and white company livery.
