This sharp combination of Balmer from Holthausen (DE) stood parked along the highway 7 near Ellwangen (DE). The oversized transport would later that evening travel to the construction site.
The truck is a Mercedes-Benz Actros 4163, a 4-axle truck with a 8x4-drive line. The truck is powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM 473 LA, a 15.6-liter, 6-cylinder line engine with 625 hp.
Balmer is very active in the transport of wind turbine parts. For the loading and unloading of the parts does Balmer also operates a 160-tonne mobile crane.
At the rear side of the chassis is a tow bar coupling installed. Remarkable is the short wheel base of the truck, the truck isn't standard supplied by the factory. Comparable is the Actros 4163 of J. Brouwer & Zn.
Behind the cabin are the large diesel tank, multiple storage compartments, compressed-air tanks and the muffler installed. Behind the front axle was only some space left for the AdBlue tank.
Attached is a 7-axle Goldhofer trailer existing out of a 3-axle jeep dolly and a 4-axle modular trailer. The cargo is a tower section of a Nordex wind turbine.
The tower section is by the tower adapter mounted to the modular trailer, the tower section is also part of the trailer now. The tower adapter is adjustable and can be used for different tower sections. The cargo can be loaded and unloaded without help of a crane.
Once the weight is acceptable, is it also possible to attach the the front adapter directly to the fifth wheel of the towing vehicle.
A very sharp combination by Balmer!
