Liebherr LR 1750/2

Yew Choon

Here, the fine Liebherr LR 1750/2 of Yew Choon from Singapore (SG) is standing ready for heavy lifting work.

The Liebherr LR 1750/2 is the heaviest crawler crane in the fleet of Yew Choon; in addition to this crane, the company also deploys a Demag CC 2800.

The task of this day is the dismantling of the upper structure of a gantry crane. The crane has already been attached to the load and the demolition company is busy cutting through the four legs of the crane with a cutting torch.

The crawler crane is erected with 220 tonnes of ballast on the superstructure and 95 tonnes of central ballast. The crane is in superlift configuration and the tray is prepared here with 275 tonnes of ballast. The counter radius is 18 metres. The tray itself weighs approximately 16 tonnes.

Cutting through the legs must, of course, be done carefully and takes several hours.

The upper structure of the 250-tonne gantry crane is now slowly starting to come free. The upper structure is approximately 35 metres wide and has to be removed from a height of 50 metres. The legs are divided at approximately half height.

The Liebherr LR 1750/2 is erected in SXSD4B configuration, the main boom is 84 metres long here and the superlift boom is 42 metres long. A 600-tonne hook is being used, reeved with 28 parts of line.

The upper structure is free!

The LR 1750/2 is now lifting the complete upper structure, which turns out to weigh approximately 310 tonnes. Together with the 600-tonne hook and rigging, the crane is now lifting a total of 332 tonnes at a radius of 19 metres!

First, the crane slews slightly to the left so that the upper structure can be lowered.

The superlift ballast was reduced to 250 tonnes; the LR 1750/2 had been prepared to lift more than 400 tonnes. That ultimately proved not to be necessary.

Once the upper structure is low enough, the LR 1750/2 slowly travels backwards.

Ultimately, the upper structure has to be set down in front of the rest of the gantry crane.

Lowering the upper structure had to be done carefully; the lifting work took approximately 3 hours. Before the upper structure can be set down on the ground, the sharp points have to be removed.

Once again, a magnificent and professional operation with the fine Liebherr LR 1750/2 of Yew Choon!
