This interesting Liebherr 97 KR stood parked on the storage yard of Smith in Auckland (NZ). Smith is the largest crane rental company in New Zealand, with mobile cranes up to 1,200 tonne lifting capacity, crawler cranes up to 600 tonne lifting capacity and tower cranes with a load moment up to 1,100 mt. This Liebherr 97 KR was purchased from local construction company Fletcher. The crane's year of manufacture is 1985.
It is a bottom-slewing tower crane mounted on a self-leveling crawler carrier. In front of the undercarriage is the 135 kVA diesel generator mounted, so that the crane can move independent over the construction site. The 97 KR has a maximum lifting capacity of 12 tonnes.
The crawler carrier is 7.1 meters long and 5.8 meters wide.
The undercarriage has an hydraulic self-leveling system, that is able to compensate slopes against the superstructure, during crane operation is it possible to compensate a 7 degree slope with a 360 degree working range. During relocation on the construction site with erected superstucture is it possible to drive over 15 degree slopes without load.
Attached to the superstructure is 38.8 tonnes of counterweight, the counterweight has a 4.5 meter tailswing.
Attached to the tower is a rotating jib that is just to lift the counterweight slabs.
The crane can be installed with jib lengths of minimum 25 meters in steps of 5 meters to maximum 45 meters of length. Here was the crane fitted with a 45 meter jib. In this configuration is the crane able to hoist maximum 6 tonnes to a 16.4 meter radius and 1.5 tonnes at maximum radius.
The hook heights can be chosen at 20.3, 22.7, 25.1 and 27.5 meters. A very interesting crane of Smith!
