Salvage company A. Kutter from Memmingen (DE) is using this sharp Liebherr LTM 1040-3 for all kinds of lifting jobs. It is a 40-tonne crane on a 3-axle crane carrier. The crane's year of manufacture should be around 1989.
Most LTM 1040-3 were supplied with a single person cabin, the wide cabin was a very rare option. The crane carrier is powered by a Daimler-Benz OM 442, a water cooled 8-cylinder diesel engine with a power of 218 kW (296 hp). The front and rear axle are powered, all axles are steerable.
Packed is the crane 11 meters long, 2.5 meters wide and 3.6 meters high. The transport mass is around 36 tonnes.
The main boom has a base length of 9.5 meters and extends three times to a total length of 30 meters. A bi-fold swingaway jib with a 8.3 or 14.5 meter length is under 0, 15 and 30 degrees mountable.
During the transport over the road is 4.8 tonnes lay down behind the cabin onto the carrier. Nice detail is that the outrigger feet are stored in small compartments between the first two axles - and do not remain attached to the outriggers.
At the rear of the crane are wooden beams and a large box for lifting gears taken.
The total counterweight weights 9 tonnes, 4.2 tonnes remains attached to the superstructure. The tailswing of the counterweight is 3.425 meters.
Some weeks later was the crane used in Zell (DE) to erect a may-pole. The erection of the pole is an old tradition that is mainly carried out in South-Germany every year.
The outrigger base measures 6.7 x 6.2 meters.
The may-pole is already erected and it getting attached here by the local fire fighters.
The main boom is here fully extended. The may-pole weights around 2 tonnes and is not really a challenge for the crane, it is more a challenge for the crane operated not to damage the decorated pole.
A very beautiful and well maintained crane, in the meantime is the crane replaced by a Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2.
