Seilbaggerbetrieb Gran from Buch am Erlbach (DE) took in 2018 this sharp Liebeherr HS 8130 HD into operation, it was the first HS 8130 HD world-wide that was used as a dragline. The machine was here in operation for a gravel pit in the southern of Germany.
It is a 130-tonne heavy duty crawler crane and is the largest machine in Gran's fleet that is mainly deploying Liebherr heavy duty cranes and Volvo excavators.
The heavy duty crane is powered by a Liebherr D 9508 A7-04, a 16.2-liter V8-diesel engine with a maximum power of 505 kW (677 hp). The crane has an ECO-silent mode where the power (and consuption) is reduced to approx. 500 hp.
Here is the crane fitted with the full counterweight of 34.3 tonnes, the counterweight has a 5.5 meter tailswing.
The undercarriage is 6.74 meters long and maximum 5.46 meters wide. The tracks are 1 meter wide. For the transport over the road is it possible to reduce the width to 4 meters. Optionally is it possible to remove the tracks, their mass is 14.9 tonnes each.
The heavy duty crane has two 35-tonne hoist winches with free-fall function. The cable has a 36 mm diameter.
Here is a 7.5 cu. yd. (approx. 5.7 cubic meters) Hendrix TS bucket in use. The bucket has a mass of approx. 5.3 tonnes.
The crane is here fitted with a 23 meter main boom.
Time for some action, after the lunch break starts the HS 8130 HD to dig.
For a good vision in the dark are multiple lights installed on the boom and cabin.
A full bucket weights approx. 18 - 19 tonnes.
In Germany are still some draglines in operation to dig gravel, the HS 8130 HD can dig approx. 480 cubic metres per hour with an average diesel consumption of 38 liters.
Gran is also deploying a Liebherr HS 883 HD, the predecessor of this crane.
A very beautiful operation!
Full buckets with gravel and sand.
After a couple of hours digging is a large heap of gravel and sand laying next to the crane! A very sharp machine to witness in operation!
