This attractive Hitachi KH70 of Heibedrijf Van Dam from Ottoland (NL) was parked at a yard of Van 't Hek in Purmerend (NL). It is a 22.5-tonne crawler crane.

The crane is powered by a Hino DS50A, an 8-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 93 kW (127 hp).

The undercarriage of the crane is 4.265 metres long and 3.2 metres wide. The undercarriage is not adjustable in width.

Two 4-tonne hoist winches with 20 mm hoisting rope are mounted in the upper structure. The total ballast weighs 6.25 tonnes and has a turning radius of 3.2 metres.

During crane operation, the A-frame has a total height of 3.4 metres above ground; for road transport it can be folded down to reduce the height to 2.87 metres. The cab, with a total height of 2.96 metres, is then slightly higher.

The main boom has a base length of 10 metres and can be extended in steps of 3 metres to a maximum of 31 metres. Optionally, a 6 or 9 metre fixed jib can be mounted to the main boom at an angle of 10 or 30 degrees. However, in combination with the fixed jib, the main boom has a maximum length of 28 metres. This crane was clearly also used as a piling rig, as evidenced by the 'pair of glasses' mounted at the boom head.

This crane was assembled with a 16 metre long main boom. In this configuration, the crane can lift a maximum of 14.3 tonnes at a radius of 4 metres or 2.4 tonnes at a radius of 14 metres. A fine crane from Heibedrijf Van Dam!
