This Demag AC 160-5 was added in the beginning of 2018 to the fleet of Mayer from Burgberg (DE). It is a crane that was used by Demag for demonstration purposes and was also short with other German rental companies in operation.
It is a 160-tonne crane mounted on a 5-axle carrier.
The undercarriage is powered by a Scania DC13, a 6-cylinder diesel engine with a power of 405 kW (550 hp). The engine powers the undercarriage with 10x8x10-drive line, where the axles 1, 2, 4 and 5 are powered and all axles are steerable. The engine is also powering the hydraulic pumps in the superstructure.
During the transport over the road is the crane 14.5 meters long, 2.75 meters wide and 4 meters tall. The transport mass including hook, 3.7 tonnes of counterweight and bi-fold swingaway jib is approx. 60 tonnes.
The crane was here still in the factory colours of Demag, in the meantime was the crane already repainted into the sharp colours of Mayer. The undercarriage is now black and the cabins and superstructure is blue.
The full counterweight of the crane weights 46 tonnes and has a tailswing of 4.43 meters. The crane is fitted with a 9.9-tonne hoist winch with a 21 mm cable.
The cabin on the superstructure is 16 degrees tiltable.
On this side is the empty side of the superstructure visible, the hydraulic pumps in the superstructure are powered by the engine in the undercarriage. At the rear of the chassis is a box attached with some spreading woods and lifting gear.
The outrigger base measures 8.1 x 7.5 meters, of half 8.1 x 5.3 meters.
The 7-part main boom has a 12.4 meter base length and extends six times to a full length of 68 meters. Next to the main boom is hanging a 11.4 / 21 meter long bi-fold swingaway jib that is mountable under 0, 20 or 40 degrees. Optionally was a 12 meter long extension section that can be installed between the jib and main boom, a maximum hook height of approx. 100 meters is then possible.
A second time I saw the crane it was parked during a (cold) weekend on the yard in Burgberg (DE).
This crane has the optional 10x8x10-drive line where the first axle is powered in addition compared to the standard drive line.
The crane is only 2.75 meters wide.
During the transport over the road remains 6.9 tonnes of counterweight on the carrier.
In the meanwhile is this crane repainted into the nice blue colours of Mayer.
